T.J. Oshie is a Stanley Cup champion, Olympic hero, and now—through the powerful new documentary COACH—a storyteller helping shine a light on the realities of Alzheimer’s disease. Best known for his game-winning shootout goals in the 2014 Sochi Olympics and for hoisting the Cup with the Washington Capitals in 2018, Oshie’s career has been defined by grit, heart, and unforgettable moments on the ice.
Off the ice, T.J. is a devoted father and son whose bond with his dad, Tim “Coach” Oshie, is at the heart of COACH. After “Coach” was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, T.J. began using his platform to raise awareness about the disease and its impact on families. His emotional tribute to his dad during the Capitals’ championship run—“He doesn’t remember much these days, but this one will stick”—captured hearts around the world.
With the new documentary, COACH, T.J. shares a deeply personal story of legacy, memory, and love—on and off the ice. On June 9, 2025, T.J. announced his retirement from the Washington Capitals, completing an impressive 17 year NHL career. He lives with his wife and 4 children and continues to advocate for Alzheimer’s awareness in honor of his late father.
