Liam Scott is an award-winning journalist who covers press freedom issues. A Washington Post Press Freedom Initiatives contributor, he was named a Livingston finalist for his reporting on transnational repression facing exiled Russian and Chinese journalists, and he won a National Press Club award for his coverage of a police raid on a small Kansas newspaper. Scott was also the lead reporter on a New York Festival award-winning documentary about the fight to secure the release of American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva from wrongful detention in Russia. He previously covered media freedom as a reporter at Voice of America, and his work has also appeared in outlets including The Washington Post, the Columbia Journalism Review, Foreign Policy and Poynter. He also writes The Press Freedom Report newsletter. Based in Washington, Scott received his bachelor’s degree from Georgetown.
