DJ grew up just outside of Virginia Beach, Virginia. After graduating from high school at the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and went through BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition / SEAL training). He served at SEAL Team 10 and the Naval Special Warfare Development Group. After 17 years of service, he was medically retired in 2019 due to injuries sustained in combat and training. He is a loving husband and proud father of two daughters. After retirement, he co-founded GBRS Group, where he also serves as the Chief Training Officer.
