Brenda Avila-Hanna is a Mexican filmmaker and educator living in the California Central Coast. Most of her work focuses on the nuances within identities and spaces connected to the immigrant/diaspora experience. Her work has been showcased in places like Tribeca, HotDocs, HBO, PBS, Frameline, Fusion Network, and many universities across the U.S. Brenda is a recent Rockwood/Just Films Fellow and part of the inaugural cohort of DOC NYC’s “Documentary Industry New Leaders.” Brenda is currently producing three feature documentaries, is a professor at UCSC, and is a board member of the Watsonville Film Festival.
