In The Calling, Alexandra Perez is a fourth-year medical school student at Albert Einstein School of Medicine. Born and raised in the Bronx, Alexandra is a first-generation student and daughter of Dominican immigrants. Growing up, she passed by Einstein on her bus ride to school and dreamed of one day attending medical school and training in and serving the community in which she was raised. She attended Stony Brook University and earned her Bachelor of Science degree in biology. Her knowledge and concern about the persistent health problems and medical inequity in the Bronx fueled her interest in community engagement, behavioral health, and addiction medicine. During her medical-school years, Alexandra’s commitment to pursue family medicine and stay in her Bronx community deepened. In her fourth year, Alexandra conducts community research about Bronx residents’ distrust of the health care system and looks ahead to her residency, where she hopes to continue her training at Montefiore. UPDATE: In Fall 2023 Alexandra began a residency in Family Medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx NY.
