Contact

Across the globe, serene landscapes have become stages for the performance of modern tourism in the digital age. Travelers focus less on experiencing a place and more on capturing highlights for online sharing, often at the expense of genuine connection. In Cappadocia, elaborate swing photo set-ups are staged daily for Instagram-worthy shots; elsewhere, TikTok videos are filmed atop a 1,000-meter-high rock in Norway, and guided tours visit Sámi villages in Lapland. The repetitive choreography of tourism reveals a collective detachment from the world we explore. THE SPECTACLE invites reflection on the cost of these “authentic” experiences—to ourselves and to the places we visit.

Director, The Spectacle

Yasmin van Dorp is a Dutch filmmaker who earned her bachelor’s degree from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2019. Following her graduation, she worked as a documentary line producer and researcher for several award-winning documentaries. In 2022, Yasmin decided to change course and moved to Sweden, where she pursued the Film & Media master’s program “The Art of Impact” at the Stockholm University of the Arts. Here, she conducted artistic research on how collaborative filmmaking can illuminate new pathways for interacting with the world around us. Her work critically reflects how human beings maneuver themselves in modern times. The Spectacle is her short film debut as a director and had its world premiere at Full Frame Documentary Film Festival 2025, where Yasmin won the Full Frame President’s Award for Best Upcoming Filmmaker.
