Emma D. Miller is a documentary filmmaker and creative consultant whose work attempts to forge new ways of seeing, connecting, and knowing. Her films have screened at festivals including SXSW, Full Frame, Camden, Morelia, and First Look at the Museum of the Moving Image, and have been supported by Sundance Institute, Ford Foundation, International Documentary Association, Field of Vision, Anonymous Content, and Impact Partners, among others. She produced Gotham Award-nominated, SXSW award-winning What We Leave Behind (ARRAY Releasing/Netflix), a New York Times “Critic’s Pick.” As a development executive for nonfiction at Concordia Studio, she worked on Oscar-nominated and Emmy-winning films that premiered at Sundance, Tribeca, and Telluride, including Boys State (Apple TV+ / A24), Time (Amazon Studios), Homeroom (Hulu), and Procession (Netflix). Other credits include Showtime’s Couples Therapy, Oscar-nominated Knife Skills (The New Yorker), and Sundance winner Unrest (PBS/Netflix). Emma was named one of DOC NYC’s “40 Under 40” and is a Sundance Documentary Producing Lab Fellow and JFI Filmmaker in Residence. She is currently producing Elizabeth Lo’s Mistress Dispeller, co-producing a new feature for National Geographic Documentaries, and directing her feature debut, Father Figures. Her short documentary The School of Canine Massage, premiered at SXSW 2024.
