A deep dive into the pursuit of purpose through the lens of stand-up comedy. The Hustle of Funny follows six comedians from the DMV area as they navigate the highs and lows of building a career on the D.C. comedy circuit.

With raw honesty and humor, they lay themselves bare on stage for a laugh, and in the process, they reveal what they’ve learned about themselves. Through their journeys, the film explores the meaning of purpose, the grit it takes to follow it, and the quiet power of vulnerability.

Director, The Hustle of Funny

Kendra Pittman is a Washington DC-based filmmaker, currently working as a freelance video editor and creative producer for nonprofit organizations and social media marketing agencies. She focuses on stories about purpose and dreams deferred. Her latest work, THE HUSTLE OF FUNNY, is her second documentary short film, following her 2021 debut suspense short, Snapped. Kendra’s dream is to write and produce a romantic horror film and establish herself as an acclaimed director in the romantic comedy and comedy genres for both film and television.
