With intimate access to people fighting addiction, THE HOTLINE creates a haunting yet deeply human portrait of the opioid crisis in America. Through an anonymous phone line that serves as a lifeline, callers share raw, unfiltered moments of despair, loss, recovery, and resilience. Filmed across the U.S., the documentary moves between the lives of opioid users and hotline operators — people in recovery, people living with addiction, and those who have endured devastating loss.

From these fragments of private lives emerges a collective portrait of addiction that cuts across profession, geography, and class. As hotline operators track callers in real time, they race against overdoses unfolding mid-call, offering calm, compassion, and the chance to keep breathing. THE HOTLINE is ultimately a film about connection in the darkest moments — and the quiet heroism of those who stay on the line when it matters most.
