The Dark Knot at the Center

Director

Inês Pedrosa e Melo

THE DARK KNOT AT THE CENTER follows anonymous women traveling across the American landscape in search of abortion care. From the moment they leave home to their arrival at clinics hundreds of miles away, they recount the circumstances that led them there—the obstacles they faced, the distances they crossed, and the lasting impact of their journeys.

Filmed from within the car and from the road beyond, the shifting landscape becomes a lens through which these experiences unfold. Along the way, the film encounters an America both familiar and rarely seen, its visual language rooted in popular culture yet transformed by the realities it reveals.

By the time the destination is reached, the country itself feels altered—the road reshaped by what it carries.
