For the last ten years of her life, the filmmaker’s mother lived out of a Nissan Micra—washing each morning in hotel bathrooms and sneaking into breakfast rooms for food. Her freedom came at a cost: she lost contact with her daughter who offers a contrasting perspective to her mother’s account.

Director, Mama Micra

Rebecca Blöcher is a visual artist who specializes in animation and drawing. She studied illustration at the University of Hamburg. Her award-winning films mix photography and stop-motion with 2D animation and have been invited to international film festivals such as Zinebi Bilbao, Encounters, Ann Arbor, DOK Leipzig and Hiroshima Animation Festival. They have also been exhibited as installations.

Frédéric Schuld is a writer and director. His award-winning animated documentaries Carlotta’s Face and The Chimney Swift won multiple awards and both qualified for the Oscars. He co-wrote and animated the documentary Lost in Face by Valentin Riedl, which won the German Documentary Award and the Audience Award at the Max Ophüls Prize and also qualified for the 2021 Documentary Oscar. He is currently developing his
first animated feature film.
