From his immigrant upbringing and rebellious artistic beginnings in New York City to his leftist politics and lasting influence on the Washington, DC art world, Jacob Kainen’s story is one of perseverance, conviction, and creative passion. Despite the pressures of McCarthyism and professional setbacks, he found refuge in his work and, later, renewed strength through the support of his second wife, Ruth.
