Andy Kaufman was a comedian, actor, and performance artist whose groundbreaking, experimental acts made him one of the most influential comics of all time, as well as one of the most elusive. Often called an anti-comedian for his subversive performances, he brought an unexpected edge to the conventions of comedy—from iconic roles on Saturday Night Live to Taxi and numerous appearances on the late-night talk show circuit.

Shrouded in mystery, everyone wanted to know who the “real” Andy was. His untimely death, sometimes questioned as a hoax and perhaps one of his most radical performances yet, left many resigned to never truly knowing him. Through a treasure trove of never-before-heard audio tapes he recorded during his life, this fascinating film reveals previously unknown aspects of Kaufman: secret recordings of conversations, inner monologues, performance ideas, and musings on his magnum opus, The Huey Williams Story—a semi-autobiographical surrealist work that was Andy’s most cherished project, tragically left incomplete. The tapes, along with new insights from his family and close friends, offer a rare glimpse into Kaufman’s life, creative process, and private thoughts.
