Geoffrey Hinton spent decades trying to understand how the brain works. Operating on the fringe of computer science, he was long considered a crank. Then his artificial neural networks began learning on their own. He had discovered the jewel of intelligence — a thinking machine — and suddenly every technology company on the planet wanted his invention. AI: PROBABLY NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT shows how Hinton’s breakthrough fuels a new race in artificial intelligence. It is a human story of grit and determination leading to one of the most transformative moments in history.

While tech billionaires deploy Hinton’s work at dizzying speed, he is left questioning the Nobel Prize he won in 2024. He believes what began as one of science’s sweetest discoveries may have birthed a new species — one that could herald the end of humanity.

Nick Holt is a multi-British Academy of Film and Television Arts and Emmy Award–winning director whose work is marked by restraint, sensitivity, and a deep engagement with complex moral questions. His debut film, GUYS & DOLLS, an exploration of men and their imitation girlfriends, established his distinctive voice, while BETWEEN LIFE AND DEATH (BBC One) captured public attention with its raw and powerful examination of end-of-life decisions. In 2019, he directed RESPONSIBLE CHILD for BBC Two, the acclaimed drama about a 12-year-old boy facing trial for murder. His subsequent work has continued to explore urgent contemporary realities, including SURVIVING COVID and THE MURDER TRIAL.
