Reality Check Performance: Moore For Sale

Keith Wilson, Artist, Moore For Sale

In 2017, when filmmaker and producer Keith Wilson (Joonam, I Didn’t See You There, Interior. Leather Bar.) embarked on a feature documentary about Frank Moore, the controversial Berkeley-based performance artist, public access TV host, shaman, and commune leader, he went in with the high hopes and conviction necessary to launch any project. With complete access to Moore’s extensive archive, Keith started shooting interviews, crafting grant proposals, editing numerous work samples, and delivering pitches for what was to become his feature directorial debut: Deep Inside the Shaman’s Den.

Seven years later, however, the film has yet to be made. What happened? Moore for Sale is a provocative and entertaining live documentary performance that examines the tangled relationships between art and commerce, the living and the dead, disability and positionally, and practitioners and audiences.
