Blending behind-the-scenes footage, campaign data, interviews, personal narrative, and live performance, the piece juxtaposes the public spectacle of awards season with the private anxieties of filmmakers caught in the endless churn of the awards-industrial complex within a starkly uneven playing field. Part cinema, part lecture, part theatrical confessional, the work unfolds in real time before an audience, transforming nonfiction storytelling into a live act of assembly, excavation, and confrontation.
With sharp humor and dark wit, Wilson interrogates the mythology of success that governs so much of documentary ecosytem: the endless strategizing, campaign machinery, pursuit of validation, and psychic toll of falling short. Keith Wilson is a filmmaker and artist whose work has screened at Sundance, Berlinale, CPH:DOX, documenta 14, and MoMA. He produced JOONAM (Sundance 2023) and I DIDN’T SEE YOU THERE (2022), which won awards at Sundance and the Film Independent Spirit Awards. His live documentaries have been presented internationally at festivals and museums. Keith is a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences and an Assistant Professor at the University of Georgia.
